Course Synopsis:

The Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required to thrive in the dynamic global hospitality and tourism industry. The program blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, students will explore various domains such as hotel operations, food and beverage management, cultural sensitivity, tourism policy, and marketing strategies.

Course Objectives

On completion of the course, learners will be able to:

• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of hospitality and tourism concepts and operations.

• Apply business communication and customer service skills within hospitality contexts.

• Analyze the impact of cultural practices and etiquette in global tourism settings.

• Plan and manage lodging and food and beverage services efficiently.

• Understand tourism planning and policy development at regional and global levels.

• Develop marketing strategies tailored to the hospitality and tourism industry.

• Conduct research and apply academic skills to industry-related topics.

Execute a capstone project that integrates knowledge across all modules.

Modules:

1. Academic and Research Skills

This module develops students’ academic research and writing abilities, with a strong emphasis on the use of digital resources for academic purposes. It introduces essential skills such as referencing, report writing, data interpretation, and presentation techniques.

2. Communication Skills

This module equips students with effective communication skills tailored to the hospitality industry. It covers professional writing, verbal and interpersonal communication, and digital communication, with a focus on multicultural settings.

3. Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism

Providing a broad overview of the hospitality and tourism sectors, this module explores their economic significance, key stakeholders, and current trends. It serves as a foundation for understanding the scope and impact of the industry.

4. Food and Beverage Operations

Students will examine food and beverage service systems and procedures, with an emphasis on customer service, hygiene standards, and operational efficiency in hospitality environments.

5. Lodging Operations

Focusing on hotel and accommodation operations, this module covers front office management, housekeeping, reservations, and guest services. Students learn how to manage guest experiences and address operational challenges.

6. Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism

This module introduces key marketing principles and strategies relevant to the hospitality and tourism sectors. Topics include customer segmentation, branding, digital marketing, and the planning of promotional campaigns.

7. Cultural Etiquette in Hospitality and Tourism

Students will gain an understanding of cultural awareness and its role in service delivery. The module explores how etiquette, traditions, and values influence guest expectations and communication styles across different cultures.

8. Tourism Policy and Planning

This module examines the planning and regulatory frameworks that shape tourism development. It highlights sustainable tourism practices, destination planning, and the roles of governmental and international organizations in policy-making.

9. Capstone Project

In this final module, students apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course to research and propose solutions to real-world challenges in the hospitality and tourism industry. It encourages independent learning, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving.

Graduation Criteria:Students who have successfully completed the course by
passing every module will be awarded HDiploma in Hospitality and Tourism by AceTek College.
